“The only true failure
would be not to try at all.”
E. Shackleton
An intrepid adventure from London to Cape Town in a 1961 London
double decker bus. The African Job set off from London on 15th
August 2004. This is the story of three friend’s unprecedented
expedition…
Why do we need a reason? Because no one has
ever done it before, for the clichéd reason of because
it’s there to do, because it seemed like a good idea at
the time, because people say we’re idiots and we won’t
do it. That’s why! There’s not much point in travelling
to the Arctic either.
Undeniably there are simpler and more economic
vehicles that would make the voyage down to Cape Town than a Routemaster.
The mammoth effort required to maintain a 7.8 tonne vehicle for
over 15,000 miles is the reason and why not make it a bus and
why not make it an old one. Brave – ridiculous – mad,
whatever the label we are off and there’s not much that
anyone can do about it now.
