Tour itinerary

Itinerary:

Day 1
An early morning departure from Gatwick Airport on Easyjet flight to Marrakech.
Transfer on arrival to Kashbah du Toubkal (click here for pictures) for lunch and relaxed afternoon in the local environs. Overnight and Dinner at the Kashbah

Day 2
For those who wish there will be a guided but relaxed walk into the mountains with mules to carry our picnic lunch and water supplies. The views are wonderful and the timeless quality of the village life is a thoughtful contrast to our timetabled existence. Cameras and sketch pads are recommended. On return the Hamaam will be available before having Dinner at the Kasbah

Day 3
In the morning after breakfast we shall make a leisurely transfer to Marrakech to arrive at our Riad Hotel (click here for pictures) by lunchtime. After settling in we will have lunch and then make our first foray out to the Souk.

(A Riad is usually the transformation of several houses into an intimate hotel, centred around inner courtyards and fountains)

The Souk in Marrakech has over 50,000 stall holders and is a whole world of its own. It is easy to spend hours drinking mint tea discussing the product and the price with a stall holder who will regard you as a friend thereafter. The process of retail therapy takes on a whole new meaning when bargaining in the Souk. It will take several visits to cover the main sectors which include: pottery and ceramics, jewellery, leatherwork, wood carving, wrought iron metalwork, spices, basket ware, and weaving and textiles. Dinner at the Riad

Day 4
After breakfast we will take a Caleche (Moroccan horse and carriage) ride around the city, visiting the Bahia Palace, the Tannery and the Pottery market with time to walk back to the Souk through streets lined with mediaeval caravanserais and street traders of the present. Lunch in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon make a further expedition to the Souk, this time visiting the mediaeval Koranic University buildings.

In the early evening we will stroll through the Djemaa El Fna where for centuries the traditions of story-telling and community life have a compelling magic for the onlookers.Dinner at the Riad

Day 5
Visit to Jardin Majorelle, now owned by Yves St Laurent, which provides unusual sketching opportunities and also houses a modest museum of Islamic art.
Return to the Riad for lunch before making a final visit to the Souk for bargains to take home. Dinner at the Riad

Day 6
Morning Easyjet flight from Marrakech to London Gatwick via Casablanca
