Tour Overview

This course is designed to boost both ability and confidence in all the main skills (speaking, listening, reading and writting). It is based on the main topic areas of the Common Entrance syllabus.

Teaching groups are kept to a small size (maximum 5), and formal teaching will comprise 3-4 hours per day. The main emphasis will be on boosting confidence and fluency in spoken French, and the small class-size means that students will have the opportunity to speak French much more than in a normal classroom environment.

The course are run by Dr Peter Norton (ex-Head of Classics, French teacher) and his wife Susan, who taught French at St Edward's for ten years. The courses take place at their home in South West France. The house is well equipped for down-time (swimming pool, volley-ball, table tennis, croquet, table football, badmington, petanque), and there will also be outings arranged for students. Whilst work is the main focus, students will find themselves able to relax and have fun with their friends in a comfortable and homely environment.

Planned Tour Itinerary

Tuition will be concentrated in the mornings, and the afternoons will feature a range of cultural and sporting activities, and sightseeing in the local towns in this historic region. The children will also be involved in cooking the evening meals – usually a barbecue at that time of year.
